MISSION In keeping with the mission of the American Red Cross, Disaster Services will provide nationwide timely, innovative and effective planning, preparedness, and relief that enhances the ability of people to anticipate, survive and recover from disasters.
Disaster Facts The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization let by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement that provides relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The American Red Cross through its network of chapters, service delivery units and national headquarter operations provides disaster relief services to people affected by disasters 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Through an extensive network of well-trained volunteers at all levels of the organization and generous donations from people across the country, the American Red Cross is able to provide for the basic needs of disaster victims. American Red Cross disaster relief services are free, an outright gift of the American people.
Fast Fact Each year the American Red Cross responds to more than 67,000 disasters for the American Public. During 2001 the Lenoir County Chapter responded to over 30 fires in the Lenoir County/Kinston area.
